The Sonoma County coroner's office this morning identified a motorcyclist killed in a crash early Saturday morning as 42-year-old Raymond Hardesty, of Santa Rosa.

Hardesty was speeding north on U.S. Highway 101 on a 2002 Yamaha at about 2:20 a.m. when he collided with the right rear of a 2003 Dodge 1500 pickup truck south of Todd Road in unincorporated Sonoma County, California Highway Patrol officials said.

The motorcycle ran off the east shoulder of the highway, ejecting Hardesty, according to the CHP. The motorcycle then struck a fence.

The driver of the pickup, Eric Benjamin Halverson, 28, of Healdsburg, was not injured.

Hardesty was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:37 a.m., according to the coroner's office.
