Human bones that experts say may date back to the 1850s were discovered at San Francisco's Fort Mason.

Human bones that experts say may date back to the 1850s were discovered on Monday at San Francisco's Fort Mason.

They were unearthed during routine excavation work not far from where a government hospital once stood.

Archeologists say they were probably in a pit dug to dispose of limbs and body parts that had been amputated.
