The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency said it wants to help the tens of thousands of fans expected to swarm downtown get to the game faster by running special shuttle buses to supplement regular service.
The SFMTA, which operates San Francisco Municipal Railway, is encouraging baseball fans to take Muni, taxis, walk or bike to Third and King streets.
Eight Muni Metro "baseball shuttles" will carry passengers along the N-Judah and T-Third light-rail lines.
The additional service will begin three hours before the games -- the first pitches for Games 1 and 2 are scheduled for 4:57 p.m.
Extra SFMTA station ambassadors will be on hand to assist customers at the Powell, Montgomery, and Civic Center Muni Metro stations.
Beyond light-rail trains, fans can get to the ballpark by taking the 10-Townsend, 30-Stockton, 45-Union, or 47-Van Ness buses.
Fans connecting to Muni from BART can purchase prepaid round-trip tickets at the Embarcadero station and at the main entrance of the Powell Street station. Those tickets will be available from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m.
One-way transfers can be purchased at the AT&T Park ticket windows at Second and King streets from 3 p.m. until one hour after the game concludes.
Traffic is expected to be badly congested, and some streets -- including portions of Second, Third, and King streets and The Embarcadero -- will be closed from the top of the seventh inning until the end of the game.
Taxis will be allowed to pass through eastbound King Street. Muni service will not be impacted by the closures.
Fans can hail a cab at one of two taxi stands near the ballpark -- one on the west side of Second Street between Brannan and Townsend streets, and another on the east side of Third Street between King and Townsend streets.
For those fans opting to travel by bicycle, the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition offers secure bike parking free of charge on the south side of the ballpark. Bike parking opens two hours before every game and closes 30 minutes after the games end.
"The SFMTA congratulates the Giants on a stellar season," SFMTA Executive Director and CEO Nathaniel Ford said in a statement. "We welcome the many baseball fans in town and remind them that we are here to help you get to the ballpark safely and efficiently."
