5 arrested for kidnapping, $1M ransom demand

San Jose police arrested five men Friday for allegedly kidnapping a local food business owner and demanding $1 million ransom from his family for his safe return.

Officers received a call from the victim's family at about 7:15 a.m. Friday regarding a call they received from the suspects about the ransom demand.

The officers developed leads and determined the victim was being held captive in the 1100 block of Fargate Circle. Officers responded to the location and arrested five men - three San Jose residents, one Hayward man and one Los Angeles man.

The victim was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not considered to be life threatening.

The suspects were booked into the Santa Clara County jail on various charges, including kidnapping for ransom and robbery.

The motive of the kidnapping remains under investigation.
