The weather is cold enough in the Sierra for the resort to be able to use snowmaking equipment to cover the ski runs. Operators say there's about eight inches of man-made snow covering the slope. Boreal will be the only ski resort open in California.
Squaw Valley, Northstar and Heavenly Valley plan to open before Thanksgiving.
