FDA expected to ban alcoholic, caffeine drink

WASHINGTON

The FDA is expected to make a statement calling beverages that combine alcohol and caffeine unsafe and possibly illegal. "Four Loko," the top-selling brand of the combination drinks, has been blamed for at least two deaths in recent months.

According to several studies, the caffeine masks the effects of the alcohol, which can lead to riskier behavior. Four states, not including California, have already banned the drink.
