Town determined to ban leaf blowing

ORINDA, Calif.

Orinda currently allows leaf blowers to be used between eight in the morning and six at night on weekdays and between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. on weekends. Members of "Quiet Orinda" want to ban completely.

It would not only affect individual community members but it would affect the City as well. We have a number of gardeners who are under contract to maintain City facilities, park and recreation departments," Orinda Mayor Tom McCormick said.

Gardeners fear their businesses could get hurt if the ban goes through. They claim work that takes minutes now with a blower might take hours with rakes and brooms.

The council just decided not to change the current rules.
