Windsor man dies after crashing his car

WINDSOR, Calif.

Gary Lindsey, 68, was driving a 2009 PT Cruiser south on Fulton Road north of Santa Rosa with his 69-year-old wife Dolores when the crash happened around 9:40 a.m.

At the Airport Boulevard intersection, Lindsey apparently suffered a medical emergency and lost consciousness while his foot was on the accelerator, CHP Officer Jon Sloat said.

The car went through the intersection and onto a sidewalk, then crashed through a wall and stopped in the backyard of an apartment complex, Sloat said.

An off-duty CHP officer, Crandon Kopriva, saw the crash and stopped to render aid, Sloat said.

Lindsey was not breathing and had no pulse, Sloat said. Kopriva removed him from the car, started CPR and was able to revive him, Sloat said.

Rincon Valley firefighters arrived and continued first aid while Lindsey was taken to Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Santa Rosa, where he was pronounced dead at 10:16 a.m., Sloat said.

Lindsey's wife said her husband appeared to pass out then suddenly accelerated the car, Sloat said. She was not injured.
