One in 25 children has some type of food allergy. Tuesday, the American Academy of Pediatrics released new recommendations for parents and schools on how to prevent and treat allergic reactions.

It says pediatricians should work with allergists to pin-point the child's exact food allergy and its severity. Families should tell schools about the condition and provide a written treatment plan. Pediatricians should also provide schools with a written emergency plan.

The study is published in the December issue of Pediatrics.
