Crash tests show small cars have disadvantage

Video from the Insurance Institute For Highway Safety shows what happens during a low-speed collision -- just 10 miles per hour. The institute says bumpers on big cars and SUVs don't line up with those on smaller cars and the result is usually worse for the little car, though the SUVs also sustain damage.

The institute says the problem is mainly there are federal standards for bumpers on cars, but not for SUV's, pick-ups or mini vans.

The Automobile Manufacturers Alliance tells 7 On Your Side, it's working with the insurance institute to improve bumpers and other safety features.
