Santa visits Oakland kids in shelters

OAKLAND, Calif.

He arrived on a fire truck to celebrate Christmas. He gave out toys and clothing to about 200 kids who are living in shelters in the East Bay.

It's part of the 8th annual Lend a Hand Foundation Holiday Celebration.

"The need has doubled since last year. Last year we did about 200. This year our total will be about 300. We are still getting calls and we are forming a list so we can hand out toys once the events are over," says Dee Johnson from the Lend a Hand Foundation.

Lend A Hand got started more than 13 years ago. Since then, it has helped more than 4,000 families through its community programs.

There will be another party next Saturday for kids from three other shelters.
