New anti-tobacco ads focus on pollution aspect

California is releasing five new anti-tobacco television commercials.

One of the ads features Debi Austin, whose first anti-smoking ad in 1997 was widely acclaimed for its direct approach.

It showed her smoking through her tracheotomy hole.

This is the first time one of the ads will focus on the impact cigarettes have on the environment, not just people.

The state collects about one hundred million pounds of cigarette butts every year, which go into landfills.
