Man arrested after allegedly punching ex in face

WALNUT CREEK, Calif.

At about 5:30 p.m. Thursday, police began receiving reports of an argument at 1501 N. Broadway between a man and his ex-wife, who were reportedly attempting to do a custody exchange of their two children, police said.

Callers reported that the argument had become physical and that the suspect, later identified as Don West, had punched his ex-wife in the face so hard that he knocked her unconscious, police said.

West allegedly fled, but later returned and contacted the officers who had responded to the call, police said.

When the officers attempted to take West into custody, he allegedly resisted and an officer shot him with a Taser, according to police.

West was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence and making criminal threats, police said. He was taken to a hospital then booked into county jail.

The victim was also taken to a hospital and is expected to survive, police said.
