Man, SJ officer injured in police-involved shooting

SAN JOSE

San Jose Police said three or more persons invaded a house at 530 Locust Street about 11 Tuesday night. Police were alerted when they received a 911 call in which they could hear background sound of a robbery in progress. A few minutes later, two officers who had been working a drunk driving prevention detail saw two people in a car matching the description of the robbery suspects a few blocks away on West Reed Street.

When an officer approached the vehicle, police said driver of the 1991 Acura Legend tried to run him down. The officer fired at the vehicle, hitting the male passenger in the leg. The officer injured his knee as he jumped out of the way, and the suspect ran off. However, the bleeding suspect was captured a few blocks away.

Neighbors said the robbery victims kept to themselves after moving in about a year ago. No one had any inkling of the marijuana growing operation and now that they know, they are not happy. A grandmother visiting her daughter and grandchildren for the holidays was especially concerned when she spotted blood stains on the driveway and sidewalk where the shot suspect had been hiding from police.

San Jose Police have two suspects in custody. They have released a photo of a third suspect, 22-year-old Aminiasi Ofa of East Palo Alto. The names of the robbery victims and the identity of the police officer involved in the shooting were not released.
