Petaluma police seeking hit-and-run driver

Celestino Cruz Gonzalez, 38, of Petaluma, was driving a 1992 Toyota Celica that collided with a 2009 Honda Civic at the intersection of East Washington Street and Maria Drive at about 7 a.m. on Dec. 28, Sgt. Ken Savano said.

Gonzalez had made a sudden left turn onto Maria Drive from eastbound East Washington Street in front of a car being driven west on East Washington Street by 66-year-old Mary Davis, of Petaluma, Savano said.

Gonzalez fled after the crash, leaving the Celica in the intersection, Savano said. Davis suffered serious injuries and was taken to a hospital.

Police used the Toyota's registration and personal items inside the car to identify Gonzalez. Witnesses also identified Gonzalez as the driver, Savano said.

Gonzalez is on probation for DUI and has two prior DUI convictions from 2007 and 2008, Savano said.

His driver's license is currently suspended and he has prior arrests for driving without a license, Savano said.

Anyone with information about Gonzalez or his whereabouts is asked to call Officer Ron Klein at (707) 776-3721.
