The Willard Pool in Berkeley is now full of mud. The pool was filled today to eliminate the cost of filtering and chlorinating the water.

It was initially closed in July to cut costs and because it needed more than $2 million in repairs. The city says filling it with mud is the safest way to protect children from drowning. Officials say when money is available the mud can be removed for renovations.
