Unlike previous years, when the waves did what they were supposed to do, this year the waves aren't measuring up.
So far this winter, the famous big-wave spot near Half Moon Bay has had just four swells. Last year, 23 broke there.
Forecasters say La Nina is to blame for the lack of big waves. Surf watchers are keeping an eye out for the fifth big swell happening now to see if it's large enough for competition.
