Grenades removed from home in Potrero Hill

SAN FRANCISCO

About five or six devices, believed to be live grenades, were found at about 7:15 a.m. at a home in the 600 block of Potrero Avenue, San Francisco police Lt. Troy Dangerfield said.

The grenades were found in a paper bag by family members sorting through the belongings of an elderly man who had recently passed away, Dangerfield said.

Residents living in surrounding buildings were evacuated while bomb technicians from the Police Department responded and safely removed the devices, he said.

Potrero Avenue and 18th Street were each closed for two blocks until about 9:05 a.m. when the grenades were all gathered and taken away by police, according to Dangerfield.

The grenades are being safely disposed of by the bomb technicians, he said.

No one was injured during the incident.
