OPD radios fail again in midst of undercover drug bust

OAKLAND, Calif.

According to the Oakland Tribune, the system broke down twice Wednesday night. During an undercover drug bust, officers could communicate with each other, but not with dispatch. Then Thursday morning, officers resorted to using hand signals while searching for three burglary suspects.

The same problem happened during a high speed chase last week when officers fatally shot a suspect.

Earlier this week, Mayor Jean Quan said the problems had been solved. A police spokeswoman told ABC7 they're working to get the system fixed as soon as possible.
