Man arrested after opening fire on police

OAKLAND, Calif.

Police responded to reports of a man with a weapon near the 5800 block of Genoa Street at about 6:35 p.m.

The man, whose identity has not been released, allegedly began shooting at two police officers as they approached in a car. Additional officers set up a perimeter around the man who was arrested shortly after and his handgun confiscated.

Neither officer was injured in the shooting and no other injuries were reported.

Police are still investigating why the man had a gun and why he was shooting at the officers.
