Richmond police officers shot and killed a dog Monday afternoon during a search for a home invasion suspect.

Police say they entered the backyard of a home on Barrett Street when they encountered the pit bull mix.

Officers say the dog charged them, but the homeowner and a neighbor insist Zeus was a friendly dog and has never been aggressive.

The homeowner says the man police were looking for does not live there anymore.
