Officers responded to a report of a shooting at a home on Meadow Lane in Redwood City at about 5:25 p.m.
Police said a man and his son were involved in a domestic dispute when the father armed himself with a handgun and shot his son in the abdomen.
The victim was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive.
No arrests have been made, and the shooting remains under investigation.
