SFPD search for new chief includes captains

The scuttlebutt at the San Francisco Police Department regarding the search for a new police chief is that half a dozen captains have made it to the interviews, according to sources within the department.

Among those reported to have made the pre-final cut are Interim Chief Jeff Godown, and captains Greg Suhr, Al Casciato, Dan Mahoney, James Dudley and Ann Mannix.

The same sources tell ABC7 that about 80 percent of the "outsiders" have been eliminated, but had no idea how many others are being considered.

Mayor Ed Lee has been quoted as saying he hopes to name a new chief by the end of this month.

The Police Commission is holding interviews beginning Tuesday. Commissioners will eventually narrow down their choices to three candidates which they will forward to Lee.
