Family, friends and authorities from the United States and Spain are searching for a San Diego State University exchange student who disappeared in Madrid more than a week ago.

The university said in a statement that 22-year-old Austin Taylor Bice was last seen by friends on Feb. 25.

Bice's father Larry Bice was in Madrid on Saturday leading a search by hundreds of volunteers for his son, whose friends told the San Diego Union-Tribune they last saw him turned away from a nightclub before he disappeared.

Rep. Brian Bilbray, who represents the district where Austin Bice's lives, told the newspaper Spanish and American officials have accelerated the search for the student.

Bice was studying international business for a semester at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid.
