Body of homeless man found in Pleasant Hill

PLEASANT HILL, Calif.

Pleasant Hill police Lt. Dan Connelly said that another homeless man reported finding the deceased man at 5:35 p.m. in the encampment behind the Pep Boys auto parts store, which is located at 520 Contra Costa Blvd. near Shadowood Park.

"There were no signs of trauma or anything that would lead us to believe foul play was involved," Connelly said.

The body was found in a used tire shed that transients used as a homeless camp, he said.

An initial police investigation was "sidetracked," he said, when several homeless people reported a pool of blood some distance away from where the body was discovered.

Connelly said there was no information to indicate that the alleged bodily fluid was linked to the man's death. He said that the body was examined and did not show any "obvious signs of trauma" and that there was no indication that it was "anything other than a natural death."

An official cause of death, he said, would not be available until the coroner's office can perform an autopsy on the body tomorrow.
