Details emerge of Caltrain budget proposal

SAN MATEO, Calif

According to the San Jose Mercury News, the proposal includes some rate hikes; a one way trip will go up about 25 cents and parking will go up about $1.00 a day. If approved, the hikes are expected to go into effect in July.

Riders were facing the possibility of no weekend service, station closures and only having service during commute hours on the weekdays.

Caltrain is facing a $30 million deficit. Now they are looking at spending money set aside for construction projects to help them get through the deficit. They are hoping these cuts will get them through the next year or two until they can secure a dedicated funding source.
