Child Protective Services is now getting involved. Many people say what the mom is doing is child abuse, but she insists she's not the only mother giving Botox to her child.

Reporter: Do you cry?
Britney: A little.
Reporter: You do?
Britney: But now, I don't.
Britney is only 8 years old, but she gets Botox injections regularly. Her mother, Kerry Campbell, told ABC's Good Morning America she administers the shots. Campbell has been entering her daughter in beauty pageants and says she got the idea from other moms.
"And they were just telling me about the lines on her face and how, you know a lot of the moms there, they're giving their kids Botox. And it's pretty much like the thing. I'm not the only one that does it," said Campbell.
Viewers who watched the story Thursday morning were outraged. In fact, San Francisco's Child Protective Services was flooded with calls from people concerned about Britney's well-being.
"We need to sit down and talk with the mom, talk with the child, and see what's going on," said Trent Rhorer.
Rhorer is in charge of San Francisco's Child Protective Services. He says his staff has launched an investigation. They're working with the police department.
"It's pretty unusual for a mom to be injecting an 8-year-old with Botox and certainly is grounds for an investigation," said Rhorer.
Botox injections are often painful. The FDA does not recommend it for anyone under 18 years of age, but beyond the physical effects, Dr. Laura Davies worries about the potential long-term emotional impact on the child.
"Who instead of giving her a strong sense of beauty and that she's good enough and self-confident, is giving her the message very clearly that 'You're not good enough the way that you are,'" said Davies.
"It's a tough world, the pageant world, I'm telling you. The kids are harsh and being confident is something she has to be with them," said Campbell.
Reporter: Does it look better after you get Botox?
Britney: Yeah, it looks way better.
Reporter: How?
Britney: Like, beautiful, pretty, like all those kind of nice words.
Campbell is a part-time aesthetician, which is why she says she feels comfortable administering the shots herself. She says she buys the Botox online from a "trusted source."
