A family-owned manufacturing plant from Oakland has been named Northern California's Small Business of the Year.

Chuck Lucasey, CEO of Lucasey Manufacturing, received the award Thursday morning from the Small Business Administration. Fifty-seven years ago, his grandfather launched the venture in an East Bay garage making TV mounts for hotels. Lucasey says his workers are part of his extended family, and he has no plans to move the operation where wages are cheaper.

"It just would not feel right to move our manufacturing overseas to China or India or anywhere else," he said. "These are good people, and these are good jobs, and I would like to keep it as part of the community."

Lucasey Manufacturing is even expanding. Recently it received a contract to make screening tables for TSA inspectors at airports.
