Giants, Dodgers team up to battle prostate cancer

SAN FRANCISCO

Giants coach Shawon Dunston got cooking tips from legendary Dodgers manager Tommy Lasorda at an event to raise awareness for prostate cancer.

Dunston competed with current Giants players Aaron Rowand, Jeremy Affeldt and former player J. T. Snow to see who could grill the best steak.

The event was part of Safeway's month-long campaign to raise funds for prostate cancer research. Snow has been involved with the campaign since 1998.

"I lost my mom to cancer," Snow said, "so anything dealing with cancer is special to my heart."

Thanks in part to research sponsored by the campaign, the death rate from prostate cancer has dropped by 50 percent in the last decade.

Snow won Thursday's cook off.
