Santa Cruz bottle rockets blamed for grass fire

SANTA CRUZ, Calif.

Shortly before noon, 15 firefighters from the Santa Cruz Fire Department, the Scotts Valley Fire District and the Branciforte Fire Protection District responded to a brush fire near 127 Via Hermosa.

Crews found about 900 square feet of grass burning in a field off the end of Bartlett Way. They contained the fire to a half-acre.

The bottle rockets were found near the fire's point of origin, and neighbors told firefighters that they had heard fireworks in the area prior to the fire, according to the Santa Cruz Fire Department.

No one was injured, and no structures were damaged.
