Lawsuit filed over beauty products labeled "organic"

OAKLAND, Calif.

Beauty products labeled "organic" can cost two to four times more than similar products without the organic label. A lawsuit filed Thursday by the Center for Environmental Health in Oakland says many of those products are anything but organic.

"This is a deodorant made by Hain, a Jason brand deodorant. It says organic on the front of the package. It contains a couple of ingredients...ceteareth-20, Benzyl Benzoate. These are ingredients listed as potential health hazards," said Charles Magulis from the Center for Environmental Health.

Thursday 25 companies were named in the suit. Hain Celestial was named in a similar lawsuit a month ago. It did not respond to our request for comment.
