New street park opens in Bernal Heights

SAN FRANCISCO

The Vista Pointe Street Park consists of previously unmaintained land that was converted into a public space with retaining walls, new soil and plants, a pathway and a seating area where visitors can take in a view of the San Francisco skyline, Department of Public Works officials said.

The space is located near the corner of Bernal Heights Boulevard and Bradford Street at the base of Bernal Heights Park, and is the latest addition to the city's Street Parks Program, in which residents can adopt and beautify streets, medians and city-owned public rights-of-way.

The project was a collaboration between the Department of Public Works, Friends of Bernal Gardens, and the San Francisco Parks Trust.

Lee and others will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10:30 a.m. today to celebrate the park's opening.
