Senate might give tax board power to go after tax dodgers

SACRAMENTO, Calif.

The state senate is considering a bill to give the franchise tax board new power to make tax dodgers pay up. The agency could suspend your business license, professional license, even your driver's license -- if you are one of the top 250 tax dodgers in the state.

"We're not talking about middle class and working class middle class individuals. These are people who owe the state more than 100,000 and on the list the lowest is more than $300,000 owed," said Assm. Henry Perea, D-Fresno.

Other states could also go after delinquent taxpayers that have moved assets out of those states.
