Low-income students get head start on school year

At least 2,000 low income school children in San Jose will soon be getting a head start on the school year.

Parents of those lucky youngsters spent Friday morning in line at Sacred Heart Community Service on First Street. Friday's line in just those people hoping to register for a free backpacks filled with school supplies. The backpacks will be handed out next month.

Sacred Heart sponsors the event and a spokesperson says the need is growing and says they can always use more backpacks.
