Study: Breastfeeding can prevent childhood asthma

Researchers in the Netherlands found children who were never breastfed are 50 percent more likely to have persistent phlegm and 40 percent more likely to wheeze regularly.

The study says breastfeeding cuts the chance of asthma by reducing the number of serious colds and flu virus infections. Researchers say children who were fed breast milk exclusively as infants had the lowest incidence of asthma.
