Two arrested for burglaries in San Leandro

SAN LEANDRO, Calif.

Michelle Lovett, 19, of Oakland and a 17-year-old female were detained following a 911 call received at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday of a burglary in progress in the 900 block of Victoria Avenue, San Leandro police Lt. Jeff Tudor said.

Officers found a garage window screen had been pried off and the window broken, according to Tudor.

The suspects matched the descriptions of several other burglary suspects and were captured in the 300 block of Bancroft Avenue.

Lovett and the 17-year-old are suspects in approximately 10 burglaries in San Leandro since May, including one in which a car was stolen from a residence but was later recovered in Oakland, Tudor said.

Lovett, who has prior theft history, will be arraigned today on multiple charges of burglary, possession of stolen property and possession of a stolen vehicle, Tudor said.

Most of the burglaries occurred after the suspects knocked on the front door of a residence. If no response occurred, the suspects went to the rear of the residence and forced entry through a back door or window, police said.
