Robot delivers innovation report to lawmakers

SACRAMENTO, Calif.

The non-partisan California Council on Science and Technology used a robot to deliver its report to lawmakers at the Capitol Wednesday. The report says California ranks 41st in science and engineering bachelor degrees awarded, seventh in high-tech employment, and 13th in technology patents.

Lawmakers say it's time for Sacramento to act.

"Now it's incumbent upon us as policy makers to take these days ideas, put them into practice, because if we don't, we're not serving the constituents we need to serve to make the future better," said Assm. Anthony Portantino, D-Pasadena.

The report says California will need to invest money to regain its status as No. 1 for innovation. It recommends the state do more to help familiarize students with technology and prepare them for the workforce.
