The age-old saying of "slower is safer" is being put into effect today near all San Francisco schools.

City officials are in the process of putting up signs that lower school zone speeds to fifteen miles per hour.

The new limit applies to one-lane streets near all city schools.

San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee says the speed limit change helps protect our "most-precious resource."

The program includes over 200 city schools and approximately 1,000 signs.
