"Dollar stores have learned how to run their stores lean and mean. Not a lot of employees at the dollar stores, they really maximize their space, they don't spend a lot on marketing, and as a result, they can pass on their savings to the consumer," said personal finance consultant Farnoosh Torabi.
Torabi says some of the best dollar store deals are in cleaning supplies, paper products, art supplies and holiday decorations. These stores are really taking off in rural areas.
