Santa Rosa police said the suspect, claiming to be the son of the three Santa Rosa residents he called between 4:52 a.m. and 4:51 p.m., said he had killed his girlfriend and his wife and child.
All three calls were hoaxes, Sgt. Steve Fraga said.
A father called police at 4:52 a.m. Wednesday to report a caller, who identified himself as his son, said he had killed his girlfriend, Fraga said. The father recognized the caller was not his son and called police.
Police received another call at 4:25 p.m. from a father who said a person claiming to be his son called and said he murdered his girlfriend with a box cutter and was driving her around Santa Rosa in his vehicle, Fraga said.
The caller said he would not be taken alive, Fraga said.
Police agencies in Sonoma County were advised of the vehicle description, but the father's actual son could not be reached by phone, Fraga said.
The Sonoma County Sheriff's Office and Healdsburg police searched for the man's son. They found him at his place of business in Windsor, and his girlfriend was found safe at her Healdsburg home, Fraga said.
A mother called Santa Rosa police at 4:51 p.m. to report her son called her and claimed to have killed his wife and their child with a knife, Fraga said.
The caller said he was walking down the street with the knife, Fraga said.
Police found the mother's son safe near his Santa Rosa home. Police searched the house and later contacted the son's wife who was away from her home, Fraga said.
Police determined the calls originated from a phone belonging to Michael Kirk Walker Jr., 29, of Santa Rosa, Fraga said.
Walker, who is on probation, met today with police detectives and probation officers at the Sonoma County Probation Department, Fraga said.
Police are sending documents about the three hoax calls to the Sonoma County District Attorney's Office and will ask prosecutors to charge Walker with violating his probation and making false reports of emergencies, Fraga said.
