Firefighters have extinguished a two-alarm blaze that burned through 20 acres of grass in Hercules Thursday afternoon, drawing some 75 firefighters to a grassy area behind 245 Carson St.

About half a dozen crews were still on the scene at 4 p.m. mopping up a few smoldering spots, Contra Costa County fire Battalion Chief Bob Atlas said.

Fire personnel believe a construction worker using cutting equipment to demolish homes in the area unintentionally sparked the blaze this afternoon.

The flames did not threaten any structures, and no injuries were reported.
