A respected fixture on Bay Area television for 30 years has passed away. Reporter Bob MacKenzie retired from KTVU Channel 2 in 2008. He died Thursday after a long battle with cancer.

He was known for artful storytelling and compassion for the people he covered.

MacKenzie worked at ABC7 for three years in the mid-1980s. He did hundreds of stories; some poignant, some hard hitting, like the forced relocation of Native Americans.

He also did many stories that were funny. In this clip from 1985, Bob pokes fun at himself and his coworkers as he builds a model volcano.

ABC7 staffers remember MacKenzie as gifted writer, journalist and a great friend. He was 75.
