Baby bumper padding in cribs under scrutiny

Chicago has banned the bumpers, the state of Maryland is looking to do the same. This comes following a Chicago Tribune investigation showing the popular bedding poses a suffocation risk to babies. The basic medical advice is to keep cribs simple.

"In a crib, the basics are what's important. Obviously there should be a mattress so the baby can sleep on it, but it should be relatively firm, soft, but relatively firm, not overly fluffy or something that the child would sink into," said Dr. Colleen Costello-Twiddy, an emergency room physician.

We will keep track of this ongoing issue and will report back as things change.
