Press box lifted in place at Cal Stadium

One of the largest cranes in the country began hoisting sections of the press box at Memorial Stadium.

The renovation of Cal's old home, Memorial Stadium, took a huge step forward Tuesday.

One of the largest cranes in the country began hoisting sections of the 300-foot long press box onto four massive support towers.

When complete, the press box will sway back and forth if a quake actually hits.

"About a foot, which is similar to what you would feel in a high rise in a windstorm. So it's not anything really out of character with what we would do in a building, in a taller building anyway," said Rene Vignos, from Forell/Elsesser Engineers.
