A very small study indicates ginger supplements may help lower the risk of colon cancer.

Researchers at the University of Michigan Medical School gave 30 healthy adults 2 grams of powdered ginger root or a placebo each day for four weeks. Tissue samples of those taking the capsules showed a decrease in chemicals that increase inflammation in the gut.

The study is published in Cancer Prevention Research.
