Man arrested, connected to August Denny's assault

SANTA CLARA, Calif.

Eduardo Montes, 33, of Santa Clara, was identified and arrested by police at 6:42 a.m. on Oct. 4. His arraignment is set for next Tuesday.

Santa Clara police responded on Aug. 13 to a report of intoxicated customers causing a disturbance inside the Denny's Restaurant at 3715 El Camino Real.

When a Denny's waitress asked the group to quiet down, Montes became enraged and threw silverware at her, cutting her face, police said.

Police said Montes fled, then forced his way back into the restaurant and punched the restaurant manager in the mouth. Montes also punched the waitress in the face, knocking her unconscious.

The waitress was taken to a hospital after suffering a broken nose and a concussion.

Anonymous tips provided after police released video and still pictures of the assaults to the media led to the identification of Montes, police said.

He has been charged with several felony and misdemeanor violations, police said.
