State hospital workers remember colleague's death

NAPA, Calif.

Employees laid flowers in her honor and heard from friends, family members, lawmakers and co-workers.

Gross was killed by a patient who had been declared criminally insane. In the wake of her death, Napa State Hospital workers called for critical staffing and safety measures.

"I want them to hire the people (they) said (they) were going to hire," nurse practitioner Luz Hernandez said. "Get the alarm you said you were going to get. Do those things. Take the people out of here that don't belong in Napa State Hospital."

The workers say they're caring for maximum security inmates in a minimum security facility.
