SAN LEANDRO, Calif. --Police say firefighters discovered hundreds of marijuana plants while battling a blaze at a warehouse in San Leandro early this morning. Just after midnight, a police officer on patrol noticed smoke coming from a commercial building located at 645 143rd Ave. He contacted the Alameda County Fire Department. Responding firefighters had to force entry into an adjoining warehouse, located at 641 143rd Ave., to see if the fire was extinguished and to look for victims. No one was located. While checking the warehouse, firefighters discovered a marijuana grow operation and notified police. Detectives armed with a search warrant discovered about 300 plants with a street value of about $65,000 and about $20,000 worth of harvesting/cultivation equipment. No suspects have been identified.
