PG&E has announced it is laying off more than 200 employees. The cutbacks come as PG&E reorganizes following last year's deadly pipeline explosion and fire in San Bruno.

Two hundred employees from the company's information technology department are being cut along with 25 workers connected with the wireless smart meters program. At the same time, the company's online blog, Currents, says it has hired 90 engineers, mappers and managers.

They'll be assigned to PG&E's gas operations, which is now split from its electric unit.
