2 arrested after dine and dash robbery

SAN MATEO, Calif.

Officers were dispatched to the Outback Steakhouse at 66 31st Ave. at 10:13 p.m. Saturday after two people fled the restaurant without paying their bill.

Restaurant employees told police that one of the suspects had attempted to assault employees.

No one was injured in the altercation, police said.

A witness took a photo of the vehicle in which the suspects fled. In addition, the suspects left a jacket, paperwork and a cellphone at the restaurant, and officers used the items to track down the suspects, police said.

Officers found the pair, identified as Maria Preciado, 18, of San Mateo, and Edgardo Castillo, a 26-year-old San Francisco resident, at a home in the 1900 block of El Camino Real with evidence linking them to the crime, police said.

Preciado and Castillo were arrested on suspicion of robbery, conspiracy and possession of a stolen vehicle. Castillo had a modified car key and was also charged with possession of theft tools, police said.

Castillo, a parolee at large, was also booked on an outstanding warrant, according to police.
